Janet Morgan
Janet Rachael Margaret Shardlow (* 1921 in London ; † 1990 ), better known by her maiden name Janet Morgan , was an English squash and tennis player .

Janet Morgan won the US championships in 1949 . She was in the finals of the British Open twice in 1948 and 1949 , which were viewed as the unofficial world championship at the time. She lost both games to her compatriot Joan Curry . In 1950 she was finally able to celebrate her first title when she defeated Curry in three straight sets. She defended this title consistently until 1959, which she won the tournament ten times. Only Heather McKay was able to win the British Open more often with 16 titles. Due to persistent back injuries, she had to end her playing career in 1960. She was the first female president of the Women's International Squash Players Association until her resignation in 1983 and was posthumously inducted into the World Squash Hall of Fame in 1993.

Janet Morgan was also active in tennis. Between 1946 and 1955 she took part in the Wimbledon tournament every year and was part of the British team at the Wightman Cup in 1946 .
