Jani Klinga (born June 2, 1975 in Lahti ) is a former Finnish ski jumper . He was the head coach of the Finnish national team until 2016.

Career

Ski jumper

Klinga jumped in the ski jumping world cup for the first time on March 6, 1993 . The jumping in his home country Lahti remained with 39th place without winning a point. For two years he then jumped exclusively in the Continental Cup (COC). After his success there, he was reappointed to the World Cup team in 1995 and already jumped into the points at his first World Cup since 1993 on January 28, 1995 in Lahti with 30th place. He also won seven World Cup points in the second competition on the large hill with a 24th place. At the end of the 1994/95 World Cup season he was in 86th place in the overall World Cup ranking with a total of 8 World Cup points. In the following season he was firmly in the World Cup squad and after winning several points came in 67th place in the overall World Cup standings. However, it was his last season in the World Cup. In the Continental Cup he jumped a year longer, but was unable to achieve any successes here either and thereupon ended his active ski jumping career in 1997.

Trainer

Just three years after the end of his career, Klinga started as a coach for the Finnish B-team in 2000. From 2004 to 2006 he was in charge of the Finnish Nordic Combined as a jumping coach. He then worked as a personal trainer in Japan, where he looked after Daiki Itō and Noriaki Kasai . For the 2014/15 season he took over the Finnish A-squad and looked after it for the first time at the 2014 Ski Jumping Grand Prix .

At the beginning of 2016, the Austrian Andreas Mitter became his successor as Finnish head coach.
