Jani Toivola (born November 27, 1977 in Vaasa ) is a Finnish actor , dancer and politician of the Green Bund party .

Life

Toivola grew up in Finland as the son of a Finnish woman and a Kenyan. He trained as an actor and dancer from 1999 to 2002 at the Herbert Berghof Studio in New York City . Since 2005 he has been at the theater and regularly seen in entertainment shows on Finnish television.

In the election in Finland in 2011 the draw he succeeded as MP for the constituency Uusimaa into Parliament . In 2015, he cast doubts about running again, but ran and was re-elected to the Reichstag. From May 2013 to June 2015 he was second deputy chairman of the Greens parliamentary group. Toivola took a leave of absence from December 2016 to July 2017 due to depression and exhaustion.

Toivola is openly gay, in 2018 he led the Helsinki Pride parade . In 2013 he became the father of a daughter.

In 2018, financial irregularities in connection with his parliamentary activities became public: he had wrongly received expense allowances for an apartment in Riihimäki , gave false information about permanent residence and billed private taxi rides. In addition, he did not properly report board funds from a youth foundation to parliament. Toivola promised to clarify the situation and to settle unjustified payments quickly.
