Janina Janke

Janina Janke (* 1974 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German research artist, director and set designer.

Life

Janke initially trained as a carpenter and then studied European ethnology and philosophy at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Humboldt University in Berlin . From 2000 to 2005 she completed a degree in stage design at the Berlin University of the Arts .

Since she co-founded the artist formation OPER DYNAMO WEST in 2006, Janke has been grappling with striking buildings and spaces in Berlin and international contexts. She designs and implements spatial interventions, documentary theater and artistic research projects at the interface of art, architecture and science. Janke works regularly with the American composer Bill Dietz and the musician and transdisciplinary artist Maurice de Martin . From 2011 to 2015 she was a participant in the project other spaces - knowledge through art , which was funded by the Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research (FWF). In addition to her art projects on striking architecture and public spaces, Janke works as a freelance stage and costume designer for theater and opera, most recently regularly for the performance collective Turbo Pascal .

Janke's works include: a. with the Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten Berlin (2007), the Europa Center Berlin (2007), the Digital Media City in Seoul, South Korea (2008), the Research Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Shipbuilding Berlin (2010), Le Corbusier's Unités d`habitation in Berlin and Marseille (2012/13), the Ethnological Museum in Berlin-Dahlem as part of the Humboldt Lab Dahlem (2012/2013), the headquarters of the United Nations in Vienna, Nairobi, New York and Geneva (2011-2016) as well as the urban transformation of Bernau near Berlin (2016–2018).

She lives in Berlin .
