Janko Simrak

Janko Šimrak (born May 28, 1883 in Šimraki , Žumberak , Austria-Hungary , today Croatia ; † August 9, 1946 in Križevci , Yugoslavia , today Croatia) was bishop of the Greek Catholic diocese of Križevci .

Life

Janko Šimrak was ordained a priest on August 23, 1908 . On May 9, 1942, he was appointed Greek Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Križevci, and on August 16, 1942, he was solemnly introduced to his office.

In the former Yugoslavia , Bishop Janko Šimrak was arrested on charges and charges of being an opponent of the communist liberation movement and communist forces. He was sentenced to death in 1945 . While in prison for two months, he was so ill-treated that his health was terminally damaged. Bishop Janko Šimrak was then transferred to a hospital in Zagreb , where he died a few months later at the age of 62 as a result of the abuse he had suffered.
