Janusz Ślązak

Janusz Lubomir Ślązak (born March 20, 1907 in Warsaw , † February 24, 1985 ibid) was a Polish rower .

The five-time Polish champion initially rowed for AZS Warszawa , later switching to WTW . At the Olympic Games in 1928 he retired with the Polish eighth in the intermediate run, in the overall standings the eighth reached fourth place.

At the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Ślązak won two medals. In the two with a helmsman , together with Jerzy Braun and helmsman Jerzy Skolimowski, he came second behind the victorious US two. In a four with a helmsman , the German boat won ahead of the Italians. Behind them came Jerzy Braun, Janusz Ślązak, Stanisław Urban , Edward Kobyliński together with Skolimowski in third place. At the European Championships in 1933 Braun, Ślązak and Skolimowski won the silver medal behind the Hungarian boat. In the same line-up, the two competed in the 1936 Olympic Games , but missed the finals there.

Ślązak was a lieutenant in the Polish army , which was defeated by German troops in September 1939. He survived the Second World War in a prison camp for officers. After the Second World War, the Warsaw School of Economics graduate worked in the fishing industry.
