Jerzy Brown

Jerzy Walerian Braun (born April 13, 1911 in Bydgoszcz , † March 8, 1968 in Crawley ) was a Polish rower .

Career

Jerzy Braun began rowing in 1927, he first rowed for the rowing company BTW Bydgoszcz , later he moved to Warsaw to WTW Warszawa . In ten years he won 13 Polish championship titles in five different boat classes.

Braun won his first international medal at the European Championships in 1929 . Together with Leon Birkholc , Edmund Jankowski and Franciszek Bronikowski , he received the bronze medal in the four without a helmsman . At the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Braun won two medals. In two with a helmsman , he achieved second place behind the victorious US twos together with Janusz Ślązak and helmsman Jerzy Skolimowski . In a four with a helmsman , the German boat won ahead of the Italians. Behind them came Jerzy Braun, Janusz Ślązak, Stanisław Urban , Edward Kobyliński together with Skolimowski in third place. At the European Championships in 1933 Braun, Ślązak and Skolimowski won the silver medal behind the Hungarian boat. In the same line-up, the two competed in the 1936 Olympic Games , but missed the finals there.

Braun was a lieutenant in the Polish army , which was defeated by German troops in September 1939. Braun fled across the Middle East and North Africa and joined the Polish armed forces in the west , where he served as an officer in the 2nd Corps . He was wounded twice and was recognized for his bravery. After the Second World War, Braun stayed in England and worked for an electronics company in London.
