Nihon Musen KK ( Japanese 日本 無線 株式会社 , Nihon Musen Kabushiki kaisha , English Japan Radio Co., Ltd. , JRC for short ) is a Japanese listed electronics company. The core business includes the development and manufacture of radio and RADAR devices (not only) for shipping but also ECDIS and GPS devices as well as other devices that are important for shipping.

history

The company was founded in December 1915 as the silent company Nihon Musen Denshinki Seizōsho ( 日本 無線 電信 機 製造 所 , German "Factory for Japanese wireless telegraph equipment ") for the production of spark telegraphs . In February 1920, the reorganization took place as a stock company Nihon Musen Denshin Denwa ( 日本 無線 電信 電話 , "Japanese, wireless telegraphy and telephony"). In January 1930 the plant moved to Ōsaki (today part of Shinagawa , Tokyo ) and in July 1938 to Mitaka , where the main plant is still located today. In December 1942, the company took on its current name.

In 1939 the company developed the world's first cavity magnetron , Japan's first weather radar in 1954 , the first transistor- based LORAN receiver in 1960 , and the world's first GPS receiver for cars in 1990 .

In August 2009 the seat was moved to Suginami .

In December 2013, the Dutch company Alphatron Marine BV became a subsidiary of JRC. Since then the headquarters of JRC Marine Europe has been in Rotterdam. In December 2016, the takeover was 100% completed.

In Germany, JRC Marine is represented by Alphatron Marine Deutschland GmbH.
