Jiří Paroubek government
The Paroubek government or Jiří Paroubek government was the government of the Czech Republic from April 25, 2005 to September 4, 2006. It was a coalition government of the parties ČSSD , KDU-ČSL and US-DEU . It was the third cabinet in the current 2002-2006 legislative period . The head of government was the social democratic politician Jiří Paroubek .
The incumbent Social Democratic Prime Minister Stanislav Gross was involved in a real estate affair in the spring of 2005 and the coalition partners KDU-ČSL and US-DEU asked the Social Democrats to exchange him. When Gross did not comply with the coalition partners' request to resign, the ministers of the KDU-ČSL and US-DEU resigned from the government , which in fact led to the government breaking up . However, since Gross no longer had a majority in parliament, he finally cleared the way for a new edition of the previous coalition and announced his resignation on April 25, 2005. On the same day, the vice-chairman of the ČSSD and Minister for Regional Development Jiří Paroubek was sworn in as the new Prime Minister by President Václav Klaus and the ministers of his cabinet were sworn in. On May 13, 2005, the government gained the confidence of the House of Representatives with all 101 votes in the coalition (out of 200 MPs) .
During the course of his reign, Jiří Paroubek was able to regain the voters' trust, which had collapsed. In the parliamentary elections taking place at the end of the legislature on June 2 and 3, 2006, the Social Democrats won slightly, but only became the second strongest party behind the ODS . Because the previous coalition partner US-DEU disappeared from the political scene, there was no majority to continue the previous center-left government. Since there was a stalemate in the House of Representatives between the right and left camps of 100 seats each, the country was politically blocked. Not only the formation of a government, but also the constitution of the House of Representatives was delayed due to a lack of majority for a candidate from each camp. According to the constitution, the government initially remained in office and Paroubek only announced his resignation two months after the elections, on August 16, 2006. Until the inauguration of the government of his successor Mirek Topolánek on September 4, 2006, the Paroubek government was still provisionally in office.
