Pavel Dostál
Pavel Dostál (born February 25, 1943 in Olomouc ; † July 24, 2005 in Brno ) was a Czech politician and from 1998 until his death the country's minister of culture.
Life
Dostál was trained as a chemist in Ústí nad Labem from 1957 to 1961 . He was a member of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia from 1962 to 1969 . During the restoration of the communist system after the Prague Spring ( normalization ) he worked as an unskilled worker, wrote a wide variety of pieces (together with Miroslav Horníček, among others ). In June 1990 he became artistic director of the Olomouc Music Theater. Since 1991 he was a member of the Czech Social Democratic Party and was elected to the National Assembly in 1992.
After the dissolution of the ČSFR, Dostál worked for a few years at the Moravian Theater in Olomouc and was also a commentator for the Právo newspaper . Since 1998 he has been Minister of Culture as the successor to the actor Martin Stropnický .
Dostál died in the Brno hospital after a year of severe cancer .
