Japan aktuell - Journal of Current Japanese Affairs (published: 1993 to 2008) is a scientific journal on political, economic and social developments in Japan .

editor

The publisher of Japan aktuell was the GIGA Institute of Asian Studies (GIGA Institute for Asian Studies) in Hamburg . The journal was published every two months, in 2008 only quarterly and was part of the GIGA Journal Family of the GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies (Hamburg). The editorial team was headed by Dirk Nabers , Anja Walke and Ryôma Sakaeda.

The GIGA Journal Family is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) as an open access pilot project. In the two-year project period, several established social science journals, including Japan aktuell , are to be converted into open access journals and, in addition to being offered online in print, worldwide.

Japan aktuell offers studies and reports on the reforms currently taking place in the world's second largest industrial nation. Important current events and contexts are also commented on in detailed background analyzes. The scientific papers will be ahead of its release a double anonymous peer review process ( peer review subject), to ensure the quality of the contributions.

The magazine is aimed at professionals who deal with Japan in science and politics, in business, administration and the media. The journal is part of the holdings of many public and university libraries etc. in Germany and abroad and is classified, for example, at the University of Bonn as one of the most important German-language periodicals on current developments in the Asian country of Japan.
