Jarmila Vacková , in Germany and the USA since her marriage as Jarmila Marton (born August 19, 1908 in Chicago , Illinois ; † September 26, 1971 in Santa Monica , California ), was an American actress predominantly in Czechoslovak and German-language films.

Live and act

Jarmila Vacková had Bohemian roots and began her film career at the age of 17 in the land of her forefathers. Already in her screen debut , the comedy The Marriage of Nanynka Kulichovy , she played the title role. Well-known Czechs such as Anny Ondra , Karel Lamač and Theodor Pištěk , with whom Vacková was later to shoot several times, later worked by her side . After she met Andrew Marton, who was born in Hungary and was American by choice , they got married and shot the film expedition comedy North Pole - Ahoi! In Greenland in 1932/33 together . , in which she, now as Jarmila Marton, embodied the screen diva Rita Nora.

The couple stayed in Berlin until the mid-1930s, when, in view of the increasing racial persecution by the National Socialist regime, it was decided to return home to Jarmila Marton's homeland, the USA. While Andrew Marton continued his directing career there, his wife Jarmila withdrew almost completely from the film business. Only in 1951 did Marton bring his wife back in front of the camera for a supporting role in an adventure film ( Storm over Tibet ), at the same time a tribute to her own cinematic past: Jarmila Marton played there the wife of German-born actor Harald Dyrenfurth, who in turn was the son of former Himalayan researcher and expedition leader Günter Oskar Dyhrenfurth , with whom Jarmila Marton had shot her last film The Demon of the Himalaya in 1934 as part of an extensive expedition .
