Jaru (Rondônia)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jaru , officially Município de Jaru , is a city with around 56,000 inhabitants in the northwestern Brazilian state of Rondônia .

The place is located in the valley of the Rio Jaru , a tributary of the Ji Parana , and arose from a telegraph station built in 1912 on the strategic telegraph line between Mato Grosso and the Amazon . A first exploration of the valley, which belonged to the tribal area of the indigenous people of the Jaru , took place in the 19th century by rubber harvesters. In 1915 the river and area were named by the Commission for the Development of Rondônia after this tribe of the Jaru.

The city reached its current expansion after a growth spurt from 1975, when people from the center of the country and the south were settled in the valley of the Rio Jaru as part of the “Padre Adolpho Rohl Settlement and Colonization Project”. In 1981, the city of Jaru was officially established by state decree.
