The Jarun Lake is located in the same area Jarun in the southwest of the Croatian capital Zagreb . Together with a piece of forest that adjoins the Sava to the southwest , it forms a 235 hectare leisure and sports park. The lake, divided by several islands into a two-kilometer regatta course and two bathing lakes , has a water surface of 75 hectares.
In August 2005 the world championships in canoe racing took place on the regatta course . Before that, the 2000 World Rowing Championships were held on the track .
The Jarun is a popular excursion destination and local recreation area for the people of Zagreb all year round. A six kilometer long traffic-calmed road leads around the Jarun. People also meet here for jogging , swimming , roller- skating and cycling , for example . On hot summer days, up to 17,000 visitors can be found in Jarun Park.
Along the city-side bank of the Jarun regatta course there are restaurants, cafés and other dining facilities and several discos , which also invite you to go out in the evening.
