Jason Gann (* 1971 in Brisbane , Queensland ) is an Australian actor , screenwriter and film producer .

Early life

Jason Gann is the son of a military officer and a country singer. He grew up in Brisbane and discovered his talent and love for comedy while at school.

Career

Gann developed his love for comedy at school, where he worked on theater productions. After high school he went to the University of Southern Queensland where he studied acting. Back in Brisbane, Gann initially worked in a children's theater in Bowen Hills and gradually got his first roles in larger productions. In 1997 he was awarded the Del Arte Award for Best Male Actor .

In 2001 Gann began writing and producing his first short films, which received great attention at international festivals. In 2002 he played the lead role in the short film Wilfred directed by Tony Rogers. Gann had also written the script. The strip won several national awards and was even played at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival .

In 2006 he wrote 52 episodes of the sketch show The Wedge in which he also starred. The following year Gann starred in the Australian show Wilfred , for which he received several awards.

In 2010 Renegade Films sold Wilfred's Australian format to the American FX Network . From 2011 to 2014 he had a leading role in the series Wilfred for four seasons . The second leading role was played by Elijah Wood .

Private life

Gann has been married to Spanish model Alejandra Varela since February 4, 2013. Their son was born on August 13, 2013. He is a prominent spokesperson for several animal rights groups including the Stray Cat Alliance in Los Angeles . In 2007, he pleaded guilty to slapping a shuttle bus operator in the face several times after it left Gann and his girlfriend out in the rain.
