Rudolph Albrecht Bodecker

Rudolph Albrecht von Bodecker (born March 22, 1759 , † January 17, 1831 in Emden ) was a royal Hanoverian major general and chief of the 10th Infantry Regiment.

Life

His parents were the chief forester Friedrich August von Bodecker (1708–1759) and his third wife Friederike Charlotte, née Koch (1724–1797).

Bodecker joined the Brunswick-Lüneburg service in 1779 and became a lieutenant in the 3rd Infantry Regiment in 1786. With this he was used in Gibraltar . In 1794 he became a captain in the 10th Braunschweig-Lüneburg Infantry Regiment. After the surrender and dissolution of the army , he switched to the King's German Legion . There he became a major in 1804 and a lieutenant colonel in the 1st Line Battalion in 1810 .

He fought with the Legion in Hanover in 1805, in the Mediterranean in 1806, in the Baltic States in 1807 and 1808, and in Spain and in southern France from 1808 to 1814. 1809 was wounded in the battle of Talavera . In 1812 he was accepted into the British Army with the same rank. In 1814 he became a colonel and in 1815 he came to the Netherlands with the Legion. There he commanded the 4th Brigade of the Hanoverian Reserve Corps in Flanders. In August 1815 he was entrusted with the command of the 1st Brigade of the Legion, in 1816 he became the commander of the 5th Infantry Brigade of the Hanoverian Army , in 1817 he became Colonel of the 10th Infantry Regiment in Emden, where he died in 1831.

He was named Companion of the Order of the Bath in 1815 and eventually Commander of the Guelph Order .

Bodecker was known for his unusually powerful voice, there is the following anecdote, on the march in Spain he is said to have brought the entire army column to a standstill with the cry "The column should stop on Lord Wellington's orders".

He was married to Henriette Christiane Preußner († 1825), who was the daughter of Anton Gebhard Preußner (born February 10, 1735, † March 13, 1786) and his wife Anna Louise Braun. The couple had several children including:
