Sketch map of the battle at Jassini

Jassini was the German spelling of the small, now Tanzanian town of Yasini on the Tanzanian- Kenyan border.

Before World War I, there was a border post for the German East Africa colony opposite the neighboring British area. In January 1915 there was a loss-making battle in which units of the German protection force fought off the advance of Indian-British units. The battle was significant for the further course of the fighting in East Africa, as the German commander Lettow-Vorbeck drew the conclusion from the casualties to forego the use of large units and to switch to a decentralized method of combat ("small war").

Yasini is now part of the Mayomboni political community in the Mkinga district of the Tanga region .

The border crossing has lost its importance, as today's coastal road from Tanga to Mombasa continues inland.
