Jatta Selung Jammeh

Jatta Selung Jammeh also Jata Silang Jame or Jato Silang Jani (* before 1870 - † January 1928 ) was Gambian Seyfo in the West African British colony of Gambia .

Life

Jammeh was a member of the Mandinka (also Serer ), and under the jihad leader Maba Jahou Bah (spelling variants: Maba Diakhou Bâ , Ma Bah ) was one of the most important generals in the Baddibu Wars (also Soninke-Marabout Wars ) in the 1870s ). Jatta Selung Jammeh was appointed ruler over all of Baddibu by the victorious Maba Jahou and asked him to form a theocratic state .

When the British declared the area as a British colonial protectorate in 1894 , Jatta Selung was allowed to become the first chief (= Seyfo) of Illiasa (or the Upper Baddibu district ).

family

Jammeh was married to Awa Jobe, a member of the Wolof . Her son Mama Tamba Jammeh was promoted to Chief of IIIiasa on February 28, 1928 (according to another source, he follows his older brother).
