Jaume Vidal

Jaume Vidal , OSB , (* 1606 in Sant Feliu de Llobregat , † 1689 in Montserrat Monastery ) was a Catalan monk, musician, writer and biblical scholar of the Montserrat Monastery .

life and work

Vidal received his musical training at the Montserrat Monastery with Jean Marc, among others . On March 25, 1630 he joined the Benedictine order as a monk. In his Diccionario Biográfico-Bibliográfico de Efemérides de Músicos Españoles from 1868, the musicologist Baltasar Saldoni describes Vidal as one of the most important men of the monastery in the fields of music, literature, art and science. He enjoyed the absolute trust of his superiors and was novice master for the places Oña , Santo Domingo de Silos and Cardeña . He organized the archives of the Tarragona branch and the Ripoll monastery. He intervened with Philip IV to end the arbitrary relocation of monks. In Sant Pere de Riudebitlles he served as prior. He was highly respected for his knowledge of Latin, Greek and Hebrew.
