William Jay Bowerman (born December 17, 1942 in Seattle , Washington ) is a former American biathlete .
Bowerman is the son of track and field coach Bill Bowerman . He attended North Eugene High School and graduated from the University of Oregon at Eugene in 1966 .
In 1969, Bowerman became the American biathlon champion. Three years later he took part in the Winter Olympics in Sapporo , where he finished 45th in the individual race and 6th in the relay.
After retiring from his career, Bowerman worked as a biology teacher near Bend , Oregon .
