The later the evening was a talk show produced by WDR , which was broadcast from 1973 to 1978 first on West German television and later on German television . It is considered to be the first broadcast on German television to be announced with the Anglo-Saxon term "talk show".

The idea for this program came from Dietmar Schönherr , who, together with Peter Hajek , wanted to import the talk show format from America. Your concept had the working title "Zoom", which had to be discarded because there was already a program with this name. Schönherr was also the first host of The Later the Evening . The then WDR television director Werner Höfer invented the final broadcast title . At the beginning of the first program, Schönherr explained the concept of the program to the audience with the words: “Today we are doing a so-called talk show. You don't know what it is - and neither do we exactly. Don't think that a talk show is the opposite of a night show; Talk comes from to talk, talking, so the whole thing is talking. "

The first edition of the series was broadcast on March 18, 1973 on West German television , today's WDR television . On December 31, 1973, the program ran for the first time in the 1st program of the ARD, which was then called German television .

Effect and guests

The series caused a stir now and then. The appearances of Inge Meysel , Romy Schneider and Klaus Kinski , who called the moderator Reinhard Münchenhagen “Münchhausen” several times, are still known today. Other prominent guests on the show included a. Gustav "Bubi" Scholz , Nina Hagen , Manfred Krug , Leni Riefenstahl and Burkhard Driest .
