Jean-Félicité-Théodore Ortolan

Jean-Félicité-Théodore Ortolan (born January 12, 1808 in Toulon , † 1874 ) was a French sea ​​law expert and captain.

The brother of the lawyer Joseph-Louis-Elzéar Ortolan entered the Navy in 1822. In 1848 he was appointed frigate captain, from 1862 until his retirement in 1868 he held the rank of Capitaine de Vaisseau .

In 1845 he published a standard work on international law of the sea, the two-volume Règles Internationales et Diplomatie de la Mer , which appeared in several revised and updated editions. In 1859 he published the Lettres inédites du bailli de Suffren .
