Dugazon ( Jean-Henry Gourgaud , born November 15, 1743 in Marseille , † 1809 ) was a French actor .

Life

The actor's son Dugazon père ( Pierre-Antoine Gourgaud ) made his debut at the Comédie-Française in 1770 , where he soon became one of the most important comedy actors . He enjoyed great popularity with the public and in 1772 became societaire of the house. As a supporter of the French Revolution, he followed François-Joseph Talma at his newly founded Théâtre de la République .

After the house closed, he found an engagement at the Theater Feydeau until he returned there in 1799 after the restoration of the Comédie-Française. He was also Professor of Declamation at the Conservatoire de Paris . In 1807 he withdrew from the acting business. Dugazon wrote three comedies that were performed at the Théâtre de la République.

Dugazon's first marriage was to the actress and dancer Louise-Rosalie Lefebvre . Her son was the composer Gustave Dugazon . Dugazon's older sister was the actress Marie Rose Gourgaud , who was married to the dancer Angelo Vestris .
