Jean-Jacques Ruest

Jean-Jacques Ruest (born 1955 ) is a Canadian railroad manager. He has been President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian National Railway since 2018 .

Life

Jean-Jacques Ruest studied applied chemistry at the Université de Sherbrooke from 1976 to 1979 and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree . From 1983 to 1986 he studied business administration in the field of marketing at the Université de Montréal and graduated with a master’s degree . In 2001, he completed an executive program at the University of Michigan Business School.

From 1980 to 1996 he worked for the chemical company ICI . He then moved to the Canadian railway company Canadian National Railway. Initially, he was responsible for the oil and chemicals business. From 2000 he headed this area. From 2003 he was responsible for the industrial products division and in April 2004 moved to the sales department. From June 2006 to December 31, 2009, he was Senior Vice President of that department. He then became Chief Marketing Officer . After the resignation of the previous President and CEO Luc Jobin on March 5, 2018, he temporarily led the company until he was officially appointed by the Supervisory Board on July 24, 2018.

In 2019 he received the Railroader of the Year award from Railway Age magazine .
