Jean-Paul Fitoussi

Jean-Paul Fitoussi (* 1942 in La Goulette , Tunisia) is a French economist of Tunisian origin.

Life

In 1982 he was appointed professor at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris (IEP) and since 1989 he has also been President of the Observatoire français des conjonctures économiques (OFCE). He is also chairman of the Scientific Council of the IEP in Paris and has been a member of the French Prime Minister's Economic Analysis Council since 1997. In February 2008, together with Joseph E. Stiglitz and Amartya Sen, he was appointed by President Sarkozy to the Stiglitz-Sen-Fitoussi Commission , where he took over the coordination. On April 14, 2008 he was elected to the supervisory board of Telecom Italia .

Fitoussi worked on theories about inflation , unemployment, open economies and the role of macroeconomic policy. He is a critic of the rigid fiscal and monetary policy, as this would have negative effects on growth and employment. His most recent work deals with the relationship between democracy and economic development.

Fitoussi calls for the US dollar as an international reserve currency to replace and the Special Drawing Rights of the IMF to replace.
