Jean-Pierre Sola (born July 16, 1791 in Carmagnola , † December 31, 1881 in Nice ) was a Sardinian Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Nice .

life and work

Sola was ordained a priest in 1816 and received a doctorate in theology. From 1816 to 1818 he taught theology in Nice. Then he was pastor in Vigone for 40 years . From 1858 to 1877 he was bishop of Nice, where he benefited from being one of the admirers of Napoleon III. belonged to. As such, he experienced the annexation of Nice and its diocese to France in 1860. When he encountered increasing resistance in the mid-1970s, he resigned from his office in 1877, also because of his advanced age (successor: Mathieu-Victor Balaïn ). He died at the age of 90.
