Jean Ann Corston, Baroness Corston , PC (born May 5, 1942 ) is a British Labor Party politician .

Early life

Jean Ann Parkin went to Yeovil Girls' High School in Yeovil and Somerset College of Arts and Technology . She worked for the tax authorities. She graduated from the London School of Economics in 1989 with a Bachelor of Laws . From 1989 to 1990 she studied at the Inns of Court School of Law and the Open University . After graduating, she became a barrister .

Political career

Corsten was a Member of Parliament for the Labor Party in the Bristol East constituency from 1992 to 2005 . Before losing her mandate in the 2005 general election , she was the Labor Party leader as the first woman to hold the post.

On May 13, 2005, it was announced that she would be a Life Peer , and on June 29, 2005, she became Baroness Corston .

She was hired by the Home Office to conduct an investigation into women in the UK criminal justice system, which was published in 2007. The report became known as the Corston Report .

Personal

In 1961 she married Christopher Corston with whom she has a son and a daughter. From 1980 until his death in 2009, her partner was the sociologist Peter Townsend . They married in 1985.
