Jean Daetwyler

Jean Hans August Daetwyler (born January 24, 1907 in Basel ; † June 4, 1994 in Sierre ) was a Swiss conductor and composer .

Life

Daetwyler studied in Paris from 1927 to 1938 at the Schola Cantorum and at the César Franck School , where he was a student of Vincent d'Indy , Charles Koechlin , Guy de Lioncourt , Albert Bertelin and Jean de Valois from 1927 to 1938 . In 1939 he returned to Switzerland and settled in Sierre . There he became music director. From 1947 to 1972 he was Professor of Harmony and Counterpoint at the Conservatory of Sion , Switzerland . Daetwyler was the founder and from 1948 to 1990 also the conductor of La Chanson du Rhône .

In terms of composition, he shows references to Gregorian chant, Valais folklore and expressionism. His oeuvre includes around 600 compositions.
