Live and act

Dieter Kreidler, who was born in Thuringia but grew up in Düsseldorf , began studying engineering after completing an apprenticeship as a materials tester, but after only two semesters he followed his childhood dream and in 1965 decided to switch to studying music. As a schoolboy and teenager, he had already gained experience in the Düsseldorf boys' choir and as a band leader in a school band. Kreidler studied at the Robert Schumann Conservatory Dusseldorf majoring in classical guitar with Maritta Kersting and laid 1970, his music teacher exams, and only a year later, his concert exam.

After Kreidler had already worked as a freelance guitar teacher in Düsseldorf during his student years, the Wuppertal department of the Cologne University of Music and Dance appointed him to a lecturer position as successor to Hans-Michael Koch in 1973 and appointed him professor for guitar in 1975. In 1997 Kreidler was elected both dean for the Wuppertal location and, from 2007, also acting dean for the Aachen department. In 2009 Kreidler retired from active university service and devoted himself increasingly to the creation of publications in the artistic and educational field.

In addition to his university tasks, Kreidler's special intention was to develop chamber music and ensemble formations especially for plucked instruments . Among other things, he headed the Düsseldorfer Zupforchester eV for 13 years, was music director in the Association of German Zupforchester and from 1978 to 2009 he was the conductor of the Landeszupforchester NRW. In addition, he is involved in various governing bodies of the German Music Council , especially in the main committees Jugend musiziert and German orchestral competition , and was also the initiator and juror of special music festivals and music competitions. In addition, Kreidler is meanwhile still at the Federal Academy for Musical Youth Education Trossingen, at the Music Academy Heek and the Academy Remscheid for Music Education and Media Education e. V. works as a guest lecturer. With Lothar Ebert he founded the Fulda Guitar Circle in Fulda in 1971 .

Despite these numerous obligations, making music was not neglected either. With the baritone Günter Lesche in particular , he arranged numerous projects relating to German songs and performed, among others, Franz Schubert's song cycle Die Schöne Müllerin in an arrangement for guitar and vocals. In addition, Kreidler has been performing together with the Lübeck guitar professor Albert Aigner for more than 25 years in Germany and Europe as a guitar duo, which under the name Duett Konzertant feels obliged to music in the courtly-gallant style, but also in the classical-romantic tradition.

In addition, Kreidler composed and transcribed numerous works for guitar solo up to a wide variety of guitar and plucked music ensembles. The focus of his compositions is on instrumental pedagogical aspects, which have found their way into his multi-volume works of the guitar school for the most diverse levels of ability.

For his commitment to amateur music, Dieter Kreidler was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon by the Federal President on December 30, 1994 . The Association of German Plucked Musicians made Kreidler an honorary member in 2010.
