Jean Felix , actually Jean Markus Spiro , (around 1862 in Breslau - April 5, 1902 in Dresden ) was a stage actor and operetta singer (tenor).

Life

Felix began his stage career as an operetta singer in Baden near Vienna in 1888, was a guest in Meran in 1889, returned to Baden in 1891, was signed to Brno in 1892, worked at the Frankfurt City Theater in 1893 and 1894 and joined the Association of Theaters an der Wien in 1895 , where he sang and played with great merit for three years.

In 1898 he went to America, where he achieved extraordinary success at the Irving Place Theater in New York . After working at the Carltheater in 1899 and again at the Theater an der Wien in 1900, in 1901 he took on an engagement at the Residenztheater in Dresden. There the young artist succumbed to a nervous fever in April 1902.

Shortly before his death, he had undertaken to tour the USA with a German operetta theater. Felix was a very personable, agile, amiable and talented operetta singer. His playing was measured, his voice well trained, it was just as sonorous and extensive in the high D as in the middle and low registers.

Felix, who enjoyed the reputation of serious artistic endeavors and praiseworthy diligence, supported every operetta ensemble and always made the best impression through his achievements.

From his extensive repertoire are u. a. mentioned: "Graf Marian" in Lachtaube , "Botho" in Waldmeister , "Tantini" in model , "Paris" in Schöne Helene , "Alfred" and "Eisenstein" in Fledermaus etc.
