Jean Gravelle

Israel Jean Orval Gravelle (born December 7, 1927 in Aylmer , Québec , † January 18, 1997 in Trenton , Ontario ) was a Canadian ice hockey player . At the Olympic Winter Games in 1948 , he won the gold medal as a member of the Canadian national team.

Career

Jean Gravelle began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with the Aylmer Shamrocks, for which he was active in the Ontario Junior Hockey League in the 1943/44 season. He then played for a year for the Hull Volants in the senior division before returning to the junior division for the Ottawa Senators. In 1947 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a machinist and was recruited the following year by the RCAF Flyers military hockey team. With the team he took part in the 1948 Winter Olympics. Following the tournament he played for another three years for the RCAF Flyers, where he also completed a game for the Ottawa Senior Senators in the 1950/51 season. From 1951 to 1953 he was on the ice for the Smiths Falls Rideaus and in the 1953/54 season for the Pembroke Lumber Kings before ending his career.

International

For Canada Gravelle took part in the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz , where he and his team won the gold medal. He scored three goals in eight games.
