Jean Monod (theologian)

Jean Paul Frédéric Monod (born November 23, 1822 in Paris , † April 11, 1907 in Pau ) was a French Reformed theologian.

Live and act

Monod was the son of the Reformed pastor Frédéric Monod and his wife Constance de Coninck. His grandfather Jean Monod was also a Reformed pastor in Paris and at the same time the progenitor of an important family of theologians, scholars and entrepreneurs. His grandmother Louise de Coninck was also his mother's aunt, so his parents were cousin and cousin.

Monod studied theology at the faculty in Montauban , where he obtained the baccalaureate in 1846 with a thesis on the letter of James . After working as a pastor in Marseille and from 1855 in Nîmes , he became a professor of dogmatics at the faculty in Montauban in 1865. In this capacity he was also co-editor of the magazine Revue théologique . From 1891 to 1894 he was dean .

In 1849 he married his cousin Marie-Louise Babut (born November 9, 1827, † November 26, 1911). The marriage had four sons and two daughters.
