Jean Scheyfve

Jean Scheyfve (* 1515 ; † July 13, 1581 in Antwerp ) was Charles V's ambassador to Edward VI from 1550 to 1553 . in England.

Life

His parents were Jeanne van Berchem and Jean Scherfve . He married Genoveva von Hoogelande . Their children were Marguerite, Marie, Maximilien and Edward Scheyfve. He received a doctorate in law at the University of Leuven in 1530 . In 1545 Jean Scheyfve was mayor of Antwerp. He was lord of Sint-Agatha-Rode, Neten and Ottenburg. He was a member of the Privy Council, from 1557 to 1579 Chancellor of the Duchy of Brabant .

Charles V sent him in May 1550 as Ambassador to the Court of St James’s to Edward VI. to England. As such, he reported on the illness and death of Edward VI, that he had a fever and difficulty breathing . His diagnosis was that the pressure on the organs on the right side was a sign of God.
