Jean Spautz (born September 9, 1930 in Schifflingen ) is a Luxembourg politician ( CSV ).
Spautz worked as a rolling mill worker at Arbed-Stahl and was President of the Catholic Youth Workers in the 1950s. From 1960 to 1966 he was chairman of the youth section of the CSV and then from 1967 to 1980 chairman of the Christian Trade Union Confederation of Luxembourg . From 1982 to 1990 he was chairman of the CSV.
Spautz was a member of the municipal council of Schifflingen from 1964 to 1980 and from 1975 to 1980 mayor of Schifflingen. He has been a member of the Chambre des Députés since 1959 , where he was vice-president in 1979 and 1980 and president from 1995 to 2004. He has been honorary president there since 2004. From 1980 to 1989 he was Minister of the Interior and Minister for Family, Social Housing and Social Solidarity. From 1989 to 1995 he was Minister of the Interior and Minister for Housing and Urbanism.
Spautz was a member of the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe from 1968 to 1979 and a member of the Assembly of the Western European Union . From 1979 to 1980 and again from 2004 to 2009 he was a member of the European Parliament .
