Jean Van Noten

Jean Van Noten (born June 1, 1903 in Brussels , † October 1982 ) was a Belgian artist and stamp designer.

Van Noten studied at the Brussels Art Academy and painted landscapes and portraits. He designed numerous postage stamps for Belgium , Belgian Congo , Rwanda-Urundi , and their successor states, the Republic of the Congo , Rwanda and Burundi .

Van Noten designed the first postage stamp for the UN issuing area in 1952 with the motif of the War Memorial House in San Francisco , where the Charter of the United Nations was signed.

His numerous trips to Africa and the connection with the continent resulted in numerous pictures, such as B. Feast at Wamba (1958, 206 × 161 cm), Resurrection (1970, 210 × 150 cm) and Tarmac (1972–1973, 140 × 200 cm)

In 1992 Belgium honored the artist with its own stamp.
