Jean Varloot

Jean Varloot (born October 14, 1913 , † September 5, 2001 ) was a French Romance studies and literary scholar.

life and work

Varloot was Agrégé and high school teacher at the Lycée Charlemagne in Paris, then a researcher, most recently Directeur de recherche at the Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS). His lifelong editorial activity extended mainly to Diderot and the 18th century. Varloot published with Herbert Dieckmann and Jacques Proust the authoritative critical edition of the works of Diderot , known as DPV - stands for Dieckmann / Varloot / Proust - (Paris 1975 ff).
