Karl Reindler (born April 18, 1985 in Perth ) is an Australian racing car driver . He became Australian Formula 3 Champion in 2004 . From 2008 to 2011 he competed in the V8 Supercar Championships .

Career

Reindler began his motorsport career in karting in 1999 , in which he was active until 2002. In 2003 he moved into the single-seater racing and was sixth in the Australian Formula 3 Championship . In 2004 Reindler won five races of the Australian Formula 3 championship and won the title duel with 238 to 235 points against Chris Gilmour . 2005 Reindler took part in four races of the Australian Formula 3 and was 14th in the overall standings. Reindler completed more races in the British Formula 3 championship . With a seventh place as the best result, he was 16th in the overall classification. In 2006, Reindler stayed in British Formula 3 and completed 9 out of 11 events. A sixth place was his best result and he finished the season 14th overall.

In the winter of 2006/2007 , Reindler was a pilot on the Australian A1GP team alongside Ryan Briscoe and Ian Dyk . He also completed rookie test drives. Reindler took part in five of eleven events as an operational pilot. A third place was his only place in the points. In the summer that followed, he took part in four races in the Asian Formula Renault V6. Third place was his best position in this series too. Reindler completed his last formula racing race in 2008 in the national class of the Australian Formula 3 Championship. He competed in two races, in which he was class winner both times.

In 2008 Reindler concentrated mainly on his involvement in touring car racing and switched to the V8 supercar . First he started in a Ford Falcon in the Fujitsu V8 ​​Supercar Series , the "second division" of the racing category. With a fifth place as the best result, he finished eighth in the championship. He also made his debut in a race in the V8 Supercar Championship Series , the "first division" of the racing category, and also took part in a race in the FIA GT Championship and in two races in the Grand-Am Sports Car Series . In 2009 Reindler did not complete a full season and only competed in individual races in both V8 supercar series.

In 2010 Reindler received a permanent cockpit in the V8 Supercar Championship Series in a Holden Commodore . He finished the season in 27th place overall. In 2011, Reindler stayed for another season in this racing series, which from this year was called the International V8 Supercars Championship . Reindler was involved in a serious accident at the start of the race at the Barbagallo Raceway . Reindler couldn't get away from the starting position and Steve Owen drove him into his car. The gasoline lines of his car were damaged and his car was caught in a ball of fire. Reindler left the car on his own and suffered burns on his face and hands. He was able to leave the hospital that evening. In the drivers' standings, Reindler improved to 25th place overall at the end of the season.
