Jeane Dixon
Jeane Dixon (born January 5, 1904 in Medford (Wisconsin) , USA ; † January 26, 1997 in Washington, DC ; born Jeane Lydia Pinckert ) was one of the most famous astrologers and fortune tellers of the 20th century. The most famous prediction attributed to her was the assassination attempt on John F. Kennedy .
Life
Dixon was from Wisconsin but grew up in California . There she married the car dealer James L. Dixon in 1939. She later worked with her husband as a real estate agent in Washington, DC, before turning to fortune telling.
Services
Dixon published daily horoscopes for newspapers and regularly published longer-term forecasts for war , peace , politics and similar topics. For May 13, 1956, in the Sunday newspaper supplement Parade , she published the prediction “ The 1960 elections will be won by a Democrat . He will be murdered or die in office, but not necessarily in the first term of office ", which is retrospectively linked to the Kennedy assassination - even if Dixon saw Richard Nixon as the winner shortly before the 1960 elections .
In 1965, Dixon's popularity peaked with the publication of her biography by Ruth Montgomery . The book sold over 3 million copies. Between 1969 and 1997 she wrote seven books. She was an advisor or personal astrologer to various politicians (including Richard Nixon), with whom she was also partially friends ( Strom Thurmond ).
Dixon was a devout Catholic and insisted on the inspiration of God for her gift .
criticism
Dixon predicted a great many events, few of which actually happened. This prompted the mathematician John Allen Paulos to speak of the Jeane-Dixon effect : One only has to make enough predictions so that a few come about and these few are remembered.
In addition, Dixon made very vague predictions as well as very concrete ones, such as the birth of an all-embracing religious leader on February 5, 1962 in the Middle East or the Third World War for 1958. The non-occurrence, however, did not change their popularity.
