Jeanne Birdsall (* 1951 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American children's author .

Life

Birdsall grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia . After completing her training, she initially worked as a photographer. Some works can be seen in permanent exhibitions at the Smithsonian and the Philadelphia Art Museum. In 1992 she wrote her first children's book entitled " The Penderwicks. A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits and a Very Interesting Boy ". Other books and stories about the four sisters of the Penderwick family followed ( The Penderwicks on Gardam Street etc.). Some books have also been published as audio books. Jeanne Birdsall is married and lives in Northampton in the state of Massachusetts .

Awards

In addition to several nominations for " Best Books" lists ( Publishers Weekly : Best Book of the Year; Boston Examiner: Best Book for Middle School Readers; Heidelberg Leander Award 2009), she received the National Book Award in 2005 in the children's and youth literature category excellent.

Works

Her Penderwick series has been translated into German, French (Les Penderwick et compagnie: La rentrée de quatre filles, d'un papa célibataire adoré et de nombreuses amoureuses), into Polish (Penderwickowie na Gardam Street), into Italian (La magica estate delle sorelle Penderwick) and into Dutch (De Penderwicks uA). She wrote the introduction to a new edition by Betty MacDonalds (1907-1958) Nancy and Plum ISBN 0-375-86685-X .
