Jeffrey Smart

Jeffrey Smart (born July 26, 1921 in Adelaide , † June 20, 2013 in Montevarchi ) was an Australian artist . Smart originally wanted to be an architect before turning to painting. Piero della Francesca and Cézanne were early influences for him . Between 1937 and 1941 he studied with Ivor Hele , in 1949 he moved to Paris, where he studied with Fernand Léger . From 1964 Smart lived in Italy. A comprehensive retrospective was dedicated to him in 1999/2000.
