Yeghegnadzor ( Armenian : Եղեգնաձոր ) is the capital of the Armenian province of Vayots Dzor Province . It is known for the regional wine that is produced in this area.

location

Yeghegnadzor is located in the Arpa valley at an altitude of 1184 meters, about two kilometers north of the river on the only expressway ( M2 ) that connects Yerevan with the south of the country. Four kilometers west of the city in the direction of Areni , the M10 branches off to the north and leads past Schatin over the 2,410 meter high Selim Pass to the south bank of Lake Sevan . A side road connects the city center with the higher northern suburb of Gladzor and with the village of Wernaschen, five kilometers away . The path to the former monastery Spitakavor in the mountains branches off northwards. Five kilometers east of Wernaschen, the road reaches the former Tanahat monastery , which is probably identical to the medieval Gladzor University. The next small town Wajk on the M2 to the southeast is 14 kilometers away.
