Yehoshua ben Qorcha
R. Jehoschua ben Qorcha (also: Josua , also: Korcha or Qarcha ; Hebrew קרחה; translated as: "bald head") was a Jewish scholar of ancient times. He is counted among the oldest Tannaites of the third generation and worked in the second century AD.
Some see him as a son of the presumably bald Rabbi Akiba . Probably because of his own baldness he was called "Ben Qorcha" (Bab. Shabbat 152 a) or his father was called - for an unknown reason - "Qorcha".
Yehoshua ben Qorcha was a great haggadist . The number of halachot handed down in his name , however, is small. Often he is seen talking to non-Jews or apostates.
Yehoshua grew very old and, shortly before he died, blessed Yehudah ha-Nasi by wishing him half of his own, Yehoshua's, life span so that Yehudah's descendants would also have the opportunity to attain extraordinary rabbinical honors ("Should your descendants do that Graze cattle? "Yehoshua replied to Yehuda's astonished question why he hadn't wished him all of his life).
