Ekaterina Varlamovna Werulashvili

Jekaterina Warlamowna Werulaschwili ( Georgian ეკატერინე ასული ვარლამ ვერულაშვილი ; Russian Екатерина Варламовна Верулашвили * 27 July 1917 ; † 29. September 1973 ) was a Soviet theater - and film - Actress .

Life and accomplishments

Werulaschwili settled until 1940 at the Tbilisi Theater Institute , which the Theater Rustaveli was connected, trained as an actress and then went to 1942 at the Drama Theater L. "Meschischwili" in Kutaisi on. In the same year she volunteered for military service and was assigned to air defense. She was able to continue her acting career at the same time and appeared in various theaters in Chaschuri , Gori and Teslawi. In 1956 Werulashvili got an engagement at the Academic Theater “K. Marjanishvili ” in Tbilisi .

The dark-haired actress came to the film in 1958 through a small supporting role in the drama Чужие дети ( Tschuschije deti ). She appeared in front of the camera 24 times, mostly in productions by the Grusija-Film studio . Werulashvili often played the role of the resolute but also humorous woman and mother. One of the few of her films that was shown internationally was the fairy tale adaptation of Aladdin's magic lamp , in which she embodied the mother of the title hero. In Я, бабушка, Илико и Илларион ( Ja, Babuschka, Iliko i Illarion , 1962) Werulashvili worked with the award-winning director Tengis Abuladze . Other notable works were Под одним небом ( Pod odnim nebom , 1961), Встреча с прошлым ( Wstretscha s proschlym , 1966), The Supper of the Rose (1968) and Хатабала ( Chatabala , 1971). Her last engagement was as Miss Watson in the Huckleberry Finn film version Совсем пропащий ( Sowsem propaschtschi , 1973).

Werulashvili was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Georgian SSR (1966) and People's Artist of Georgia .
