Aladdin's magic lamp (original title: russian Волшебная лампа Аладдина , Wolschebnaja lampa Aladdina ) is a Soviet fairy tale film by Boris Ryzarew from 1967 . It is based on a story in A Thousand and One Nights .

action

A magician asks the stars who can get him the magic lamp. They tell him that it should be Aladin , the son of Ali al Maruf. Then the magician searches for Aladin all over Baghdad . When he is in the market, the Sultan suddenly arrives with his beautiful daughter Budur and it is announced that whoever dares to look at her will have the head cut off. The people kneel down and look down on the ground while the magnificently decorated entourage of the Sultan passes the ranks. On a whim, the princess wants Aladdin to look at her, even though he would lose his life. You command him and he obeys. The guards want to arrest him, but the wizard steps in and helps Aladdin to escape, as he still needs his services himself.

The dark wizard later contacts Aladdin's family and pretends to be Ali al Maruf's brother. He persuades Aladin to fetch an old copper lamp from the "sunken city" for him. When Aladin tried to hand the lamp he found to his supposed uncle, the latter attacked him. Defending himself, Aladin falls back into the "Sunken City" with the coveted vessel. There he accidentally rubs the lamp, whereupon a jinn emerges from it. This fulfills his wish, namely to bring the princess into his parents' house. The city guards, however, track down Aladdin there, arrest him and throw him in the dungeon. Aladdin's mother, who is now in possession of the magic lamp, summons the jinn and gets her son back. After some strange incidents caused by the lamp ghost in the palace, Budur wishes to marry Aladin. She persuades her father to agree by making him believe it is just a dream. At the wedding party, however, the lovers quarrel, as a result of which the lamp comes into the possession of the dark wizard. With the power of the lamp, the latter immediately rises to be sultan and wants to take Budur as his wife. He orders the genie to kill Aladin, but Aladin has a brilliant idea - he suggests to the lamp spirit to move into a jug instead in order to avoid the spell of the lamp. The magician is instantly defeated and those who are destined for one another begin a life together.

criticism

For the lexicon of international film , Aladdin's magic lamp was “a lavishly equipped and at times very comical fairy tale film after 1001 nights , which is deliberately staged like an operetta; however, this partially covers the fairytale features of the material. Despite the unmistakable ideological coloring and its antiquated design, the film offers useful entertainment for younger viewers. "
