Yuri Vladimirovich Chekulyev

Yuri Vladimirovich Tschekulajew ( Russian Юрий Владимирович Чекулаев * 8. August 1926 in Tbilisi , Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic , Soviet Union ; † 20th January 1991 in Moscow ) was a Soviet theater - and film - actor and voice actor .

Life and accomplishments

Chekulyev trained as an actor under the guidance of Vasily Wanin at what is now the Gerasimow Institute for Cinematography . After graduating in 1949, he appeared as part of a theater group in the People's Republic of China from 1950 to 1952 and was then an actor in the theater studio for film actors for a year . After another engagement abroad, this time from 1953 to 1955 in the People's Republic of Poland , he returned to the theater studio for two years and then performed in the GDR from 1957 to 1959 . He was then hired by the Gorkistudio and worked there as a film actor until 1989.

His film debut was Tschekulajew in the two-part war film Сталинградская битва ( Stalingradskaja bitwa , 1948-49)., During the 1950s was followed by other film roles, including his some appearance as a lead actor in the drama Девушка с маяка ( Dewuschka s Majaka , 1956). Chekulyev has also appeared in fairy tale films several times , including The Fairy Tale of Lost Time (1964), Aladdin's Magic Lamp (1967) and The Princess and the Pea (1977). In Alexander Rous The Night Before Christmas (1962) he played Prince Potjomkin at the side of Soja Wassilkowa , with whom he was married until 1965 . From 1965 to 1986 Chekulaev was also involved in four episodes of the children's program Фитиль ( Fitil ). Further engagements included the literary films How Steel Was Hardened (1957), War and Peace (1966) and Shield and Sword (1968), the Soviet- Italian coproduction Italiani brava gente (1965), in which Peter Falk also participated, and the comedy Два дня чудес ( Dwa dnja Tschudes , 1970). Chekulyev appeared in front of the camera for a total of 67 projects, most recently in 1990 in Живая мишень ( Schiwaja mix ) and Мария Магдалина ( Marija Magdalina ).

Chekulaev worked more often as a voice actor, among others for J. Anthony Hughes in In Old Chicago (1938), Glenn Miller in Adoptierter Glück (1941) and Hannes Fischer in White Wolves (1979) as well as in Vincent van Gogh - A Life in Passion (1955 ), The Apartment (1960) and The Innocence (1976).

He died in Moscow at the age of 64 and was buried in the Khovanskoye Cemetery , Section 282.
