The Gottower See is around five hectares of water in Gottow , a district of the Nuthe-Urstromtal community in the Teltow-Fläming district .
The lake is located in the southern part of the district and around five kilometers east of Luckenwalde . From there, the street Am Hammerfließ or Damm runs in a west-east direction through the village and separates the residential buildings in the north from the water in the south.
The lake was created by damming the Hammer River , which powered a mill using water power until the 1950s. In the 1980s, peat was removed, which led to an increase in the area and depth of the lake. This created a lake around 680 m long and between 60 and 90 m wide. At the east end is a small unnamed island.
On the west bank there is a lido with a beach around 40 meters long. The bathing water quality was rated as “excellent” by the state of Brandenburg from 2014 to 2019. There is a resting place at the Hammerfliess on the north-eastern bank. Mainly tench , whitefish , pike , grass carp and eel live in the lake .
