Jelena Karleuša Tošić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Јелена Карлеуша , also known as JK ; born August 17, 1978 in Belgrade , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian pop singer with influences from dance , R&B and house . She is the daughter of TV presenter Divna Karleuša and a police officer.

Career

At the age of 16, Karleuša recorded her first album, Ogledalce , for the Diskos record company. Her manager at the time, Zoran Basanović, made a significant contribution to this success. Her second album, Ženite se momci , sold more than 100,000 copies. In 1997 her third album, Vestice vile , was released under the ZAM record label. Her mother Divna worked on this album. Their fourth album, Zovem se Jelena , sold 250,000 people.

At the beginning of 2000 Jelena Karleuša changed her image and her musical direction and released her fifth album for Grand produkcija . The audience responded well to the change in image. After a short career break due to the accidental death of her partner, Karleuša released the album Za svoje godine in 2001 , which was able to build on the success of its predecessors.

In the same year the Greek record company Heaven became aware of Karleuša through the spot Ludaca . Karleuša signed a 4-year contract. In 2002 the album Samo za tvoje oci was released under Greek production . BK SOUND launched it in Serbia.

In 2004 Karleuša took part in the Beovizija festival, but ended up in one of the lower places and was eliminated after the first instance.

In 2005 her eighth album was released under the name Magija in collaboration with BK SOUND and Atelje Trag. The album resulted in hits like Slatka Mala and Upravo Ostavjlena , for which she also recorded provocative videos. The video for Upravo Ostavljena in particular was hotly debated in the Serbian media because Jelena Karleusa was hanging on a cross like Jesus.

After a three year hiatus, the single Casino was released in 2008 , which announced the ninth album, Revoulution . On June 11, 2012, their 10th album, Diva , was also released under the production of City Records. The album Diva was the best-selling album in Serbia for 20 years. Jelena Karleusa is one of the few Serbian singers who have managed to make themselves known internationally. In autumn 2013 it was also featured in the American wmagazine.

In mid-2013, Jelena Karleusa held a spectacular concert at Usce in Belgrade with more than 45 thousand visitors.

Jelena Karleusa has been selling the most albums in Eastern Europe for 20 years and is one of the most successful singers in the Balkans.
