The Jerry's Nugget is a 1964 based casino in North Las Vegas with about 2200 square meters playing area.

history

The casino was founded in 1964 by Jerry Lodge and Jerry Stamis. A bar was previously located in the casino building. Four years after it was founded, the premises were moved to a building across the street; the playing area increased by 930 square meters.

In 1995 the casino was renovated for 18 million US dollars , the rooms and the bingo parlor were enlarged again. The number of slot machines was increased from 600 to 770 and a new poker room was built. A stage for 95 spectators was built. The poker room was closed again three years later. In 2004 the facility, including rooms for sports betting , a hall for keno , an area for table games and rooms with slot machines, had a total area of 8,800 square meters. In 2012 the casino went bankrupt , but was able to reorganize itself from September 2013 through support payments and thus held out.

The plant is now operated in the third generation by Jeremy and Joseph Stamis. The casino celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014.

Playing cards

Back of a Jerry's Nugget deck of cards printed in 1970. The same illustration can be found on the reverse of the cards.

In 1970 the Jerry's Nugget had the United States Playing Card Company print a series of card games that were originally intended for casino gaming use. However, the cards were never used at the tables and instead sold for 50 cents in the casino's souvenir shop. The series was printed on a playing card box, which is no longer available today. In addition, the cards have been chemically treated to increase their gliding ability. For reasons of environmental protection, this process can no longer be used today either. The card game was produced in red and blue.

The card games were printed in Cincinnati and driven to Las Vegas, where they were stored for a long time. In the year 2000, the 40,000 remaining copies of the playing cards - at that time already massively increased in value - were bought by a private collector, which led to a drastic increase in value. The Jerry's Nugget is not planning a remake of the card game.

The games printed in 1970 are among the most valuable card games of all due to their special chemical treatment, the no longer available card box and the low availability. One example was auctioned for $ 3999 on the eBay online marketplace . The cards are used, among others, by personalities from the North American magician scene; by Dai Vernon , Lee Asher or Ed Marlo .
