Jerzy Jan Woźniak

Jerzy Jan Woźniak (born December 27, 1932 in Rembertów , today Warsaw , † January 9, 2011 in Warsaw) was a Polish football player .

Athletic career

Woźniak first played in the offspring of Kadra Rembertów before the defender moved to Marymont Warsaw in 1949 and made his adult debut there. In 1953 he played one season for Lotnik Warsaw , then he played almost 13 years in the defense of Legia Warsaw . He won the Polish championship twice and the national cup three times with the Club of the Polish Armed Forces and became a national player in the Polish national team . After his debut against Romania in 1955, he played 35 international matches until 1962 . A highlight of his career was his participation in the 1960 Olympic Games . During the tournament he was used in all three group games, but missed promotion to the knockout round as third in the group. At KS Warszawianka and RKS Błonie he let his active career end.

Later the full-time car mechanic Woźniak worked as a trainer. Little is known about the life off the field of the footballer, who was awarded the Polish Order of Merit . He died in January 2011 at the age of 78.
