Jerzy Kroh (born August 28, 1924 in Warsaw ; † February 15, 2016 ) was a Polish chemist and founder of the School of Radiation Chemistry at the Technical University of Łódź .

Kroh began his studies (initially mathematics) at the Underground University in Warsaw in 1942 and continued it at the Technical University of Lodz, where he received his engineering degree in 1947 and his doctorate in 1950 . In 1958 he completed his habilitation (doctorate in the system then based on Russia). The subject of his research at the time was chemiluminescence. He was abroad in Canada and Leeds, where he turned to radiation chemistry. In 1961 he returned to Lodz. He became a professor, was dean of the chemistry faculty from 1962 to 1966 and was rector of the Technical University of Lodz from 1981 to 1987. In 1962 he was the founding director of the Polish Institute for Radiation Chemistry, which he headed until 1994.

In addition to radiation chemistry, he dealt with the mechanism and kinetics of electronic processes in glass-like complex systems (organic and inorganic), including tunneling electrons and their movement restriction (in ionic liquids, irradiated frozen gels, etc.).

He received the Knight's Cross and was in command of the Order of Polonia Restituta , the Japanese Order of the Rising Sun 2nd class (silver and gold star) and is an honorary doctor of the Universities of Leeds, Strathclyde, Pavia and the TU Lodz.

He was a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Corresponding member from 1976, full member from 1986) and the Royal Society of Edinburgh . 1996 to 1998 was Vice President for Education in Lodz.
